Cape Escape 2023 - Sunset
This was not the year to watch a sunset at Rock Harbor, The crowds were there but so were clouds of sand fleas.
One advantage of being on the Outer Cape is being able to watch the sunrise over the Atlantic and sunset over Cape Cod Bay. First Encounter Beach and Rock Harbor are two popular venues for sunsets. The crowds are large and they applaud when the sun dips below the horizon. However this year there was no applause for the annoying sand fleas that made an appearance.
The Angel
I've been to Rock Harbor many times but this was the first time I noticed the angel. How did I miss that before? This angel is atop the bell tower at the Church of the Transfiguration.

As I gauzed at the Angel I was suddenly away of being attacked by swarms of sand fleas. As I looked at the crowd I noticed everyone was waving their hands. Some were frantically spraying the air with repellents. I realized this was going to be a very quick visit.

The "trees" mark the channel of the harbor. It has been dredged to a depth of 4 feet at low tide. The trees are sometimes called clam trees because clam shells were dumped next to them.

Taking a break from swatting the fleas to get the selfie. You cannot see the fleas but definitely feel them. This crowd was tough.

Someone with the right idea
I took these photos and then retreated to the bug free interior of my car. However I noticed that one guy had come prepared with long sleeve shirt, pants and a face covering. He had the right idea.
