A Look Back at Greenville, NH

I have discovered several photographs and postcards of Greenville, NH among the collection of the New Ipswich Historical Society including several of the Greenville trestle.

The head waters of the Souhegan River originate in New Ipswich and flow down through Greenville. The river powered mills in both towns.

Greenville's Great Trestle was built of wood in 1851, and was rebuilt in 1907 after being destroyed by fire sparked by hot embers. It was the highest railroad bridge in the State of New Hampshire (105 feet) and was 626 feet long. The photos show both the wooden and steel structures.
