Look What I Saw in the Green Center

"Socially distant but spiritually connected"

The Green Center has been closed for the foreseeable future. I'll miss working there and  you'll miss your Saturday shopping adventures. This is the prudent thing to do to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease.

However in spite of the closure, I have a backlog of photos of some of the wonderful items that were brought to the Center.  Included in that group is the featured photo of Christmas lights. I see the beads of light as an allegory to being socially distant while connected with a source of energy.

Stay safe and remain healthy. Take a look at some of these treasures.

I'm old enough to remember seeing filmstrips in school. These were a strip of 35 mm film with photos and text. A specialized projector would show each frame advanced by a knob. The teacher would use a recording in conjunction with the images. Usually a beep on the recording would signal when to advance the lesson. This unit looks like an antique and it works.

My sister plays a ukulele. She needed a replacement instrument for her grandson. I found just the thing at the Green Center.

I was thinking that the classic game Build a Cootie Bug should be reissued as "Kill the Coronavirus". It would be a board game with toilet paper as the currency. It would have a plastic model of the pathogen with the red protuberances.

Speaking of Pandemics, a steam cleaner was donated to the center. I gave it a try on a computer keyboard. However that was simply for a photo-op. The preferred methods of cleaning and disinfecting surfaces can be found on the CDC website.

Norma was excited to find a Crissy doll at the Center. These dolls had retractable hair which was controlled by a knob and push button on the doll's torso. Crissy is wearing the orange jumper. The doll in purple is her cousin Velvet. Norma was thrilled at finding a bit of her youth.
