Ice Formations

The fluctuating temperatures and heavy rains have created some interesting ice formations.

Goodbye 2022

In the final days of 2022 we've had some wild variation of temperature and precipitation. First a heavy snow, followed by cold temperatures, then some heavy rains followed by warmer temperatures. As the water receded at Flood Control Dam 35 it left a curious landscape of ice sheets and formations.

Flood Control Damsite 35 held back the flood waters during the heavy rains. The weather turned colder and an ice sheet formed. When the water receded a layer of ice covered the field and a portion of the parking lot. The ice clung to the gate and fence as the water receded. Too slippery to walk.

This is the entrance to the path that skirts the reservoir. Some people enjoy the challenge of walking on uneven sheets of ice, I am not one of those people.

Natural Ice Sculptures

The variations of temperature and precipitation created some whimsical ice sculptures. These photos were taken from the roadside in Smithville, New Ipswich.
