On This Day - March 1st

We were off to a good start this first day of March in 2023. The snow stopped, the sun was warm and my driveway was mostly clear. I heard chickadees singing their "Sweetie" spring song. However it has clouded over with a forecast of more snow, ugh! Here is a look back at some photos taken "on this day".

Mar 1, 2020 - Relay Race

I spent some time on this day taking closeups of electro-mechanical devices. I've had some of the relays for over 50 years. I cannot part with them because they look so damn cool. I would assume that most electrical switching is now done by solid state devices but back in the day relays did the work,

This computer fan and cooling fins looks like a modern sculpture. Basically I am a hardware geek who finds beauty in such things.

Mar 1, 2018 - Then and Now

I see a lot of historical photos in my role as the author of the New Ipswich Historical Society newsletter. in some cases I travel around town looking to recreated the vantage point of the historical photo. Such was the case for this photo taken on what was then School Street but now is known as Page Hill Road.

Mar 1, 2016 - George Lawrence retires

New Ipswich selectman George Lawrence announced his retirement at Candidates Night on this date. George held this office for many years. He had the patience and wit needed for small town political office.

Mar 1, 2014 - John Wayne

I spotted this at a friend's house and knew it deserved a photo.
