Week 31 (2024) - Cape Cod

Sunset

One advantage of being in the "Outer Cape" is the narrowness of the land mass. It is just a short drive from the ocean to the bay meaning that one can watch both a sunrise and sunset on each day of vacation. One of favorite places to watch the sunset is First Encounter Beach on the bay side. These photos were taken on July 30th. The sunset was nothing special but watching Jesse, Susan and Alex flying a kite was fun.

Can we talk?

I had some computer issues when I was on vacation last week and was briefly without connectivity. I was in a state of denial about how much I was enmeshed with my online presence. It was bit disconcerting. I also learned that my account had expired and that I would need to renew for three more years. Unlike Facebook, Instagram and Substack, "My Strange Life is not "free". It costs about $22 a month to keep this website active. Is it worth it? I'm not completely sure that it is. However unlike those venues this site is completely under my own control and ownership. Has this become some kind of ego trip for me? These are thoughts that sometimes roll around in my head.

I thought I might make the site self-sufficient by including advertising and affiliate marketing but that has been underwhelming. The only success I had with that were the days I was a member of Amazon Affiliates, However I violated some aspect of the program and was banned for life. Adsense adds a few pennies a day, but nothing approaching the hosting charges. I needed some guidance.

My Sister's Advice

I shared my thoughts with my sister who can be a lot more pragmatic than I am. She mentioned that I don't have expensive hobbies or own a lots of expensive toys (with the exception of cameras). She explained that I needed to think of this as a reasonable expense for a hobby I enjoy. Wise words.
