Weekly Photo Journal

Week 27 (2024)

Less is More

“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”– Benjamin Franklin

i need to do less with this website. I was posting content on a daily basis but frankly there is just not enough going on that is worth writing about. I've started an online diary and that is the perfect medium for noting my daily mundane routines. Also it is private so I am not wasting your time. I don't imagine you are interested what I had for breakfast (steel cut oatmeal). i was also distressed that a long time reader complained about getting too many messages. I had become a spammer, not what I intended.

I was also becoming a bit burnt out, worrying about making a "deadline". I forgot that I was retired. So with all that in consideration, I've decided to produce a weekly review. It is fairly likely that there will be something worth writing about over a period of seven days.

Tuesday - Farouters Lunch

Posted on Twitter - "So Every 250 years we have to defeat a mad king" - Julia Duffy

Our men's group met for lunch outside on a picture perfect New Hampshire summer's day. The Supreme Court ruling on Presidential Immunity had just come on the previous day and I think all of us were shocked and dismayed. Thankfully Rick Harden suggested that we talk of other matters so we spoke of how appreciative we were to live in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire surrounded by natural beauty, We'll tackle the political stuff on another day.

Wednesday - The Pink House

On Wednesday we traveled to Newburyport for lunch at The Grog, a fine eatery in a funky old building in Newburyport, Then onwards to Plum Island to check on the Purple Martins at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. Of course I had to stop to take a photo of the Pink House on the Salt Marsh before it gets demolished.  The Greenhead flies were in force and the birds had plenty of food.

Thursday - Fourth of July Parade

It doesn't get any more small town Americana than the Fourth of July parade in the New Hampshire town of New Boston. So many antique cars, floats and water fights. The theme was "Fantasy and Science Fiction" and the Wizard of Oz float was a real standout.

Friday - Lavender Field

My sister suggested a visit to a lavender field at Pumpkin Blossom Farm in Warner, NH. It was a hot day and I shared some Strawberry Lavender Sorbet which was quite refreshing. The lavender fields were something to see and I bought a couple of plants for the yard. Susan and her friend Donna posed in the field. The barn was rustic but had odd elegant touches like a chandelier and victorian sofa.

Saturday - Lunch in Rye

Ending the week with lunch at Ray's Seafood in Rye, NH. It is so humid that the shoreline was socked in with fog. It cleared out enough for a few photos. I also snagged a branch from a white Rosa rugosa with the hopes of cloning it.

Sunday - Day of rest

I didn't expect that this week would be so busy, or that there would be so many photos. I did know that publishing on a daily basis was overwhelming. Hopefully a weekly summary will be digestible for my readers. Thats pretty much all I have for Week 27 of 2024. Week 28 starts tomorrow.
