Weekly Photo Journal - Week 36 (2024)

Almost my birthday

Week 36 came to a close on Sunday with a combined birthday party for myself, Emily and Joshua. Emily suggested a selfie at the restaurant.

Ocean view

September is my favorite month and that would be true even if it weren't my birth month.  Blue skies and a view of the ocean made this day special.

New Ipswich Democrats

I'm voting for sanity this November. My political views have led to some spirited discussions online. I would like to live my remaining years in a democracy and I sincerely believe the election of a Trump/Vance ticket represents an existential threat to our country. This week I picked up my yard signs and met up with some fellow patriots.

More Blooms

My other Canna bloomed this week. This one came from the Children's Fair. The Dahlia's have been a disappointment. So far only two blooms. Not sure what the problem is. Also spotted the first Indian Pipe flowers, a truly weird flowering plant (not a fungus).

Look What I Saw at the Green Center

The Green Center had an amazing selection of items this week, gathered from all over the world. They were donated by a couple who had traveled extensively and were anxious to downsize. I was asked to write more about the Green Center which I will do in future postings.

Chordify - Blood on the saddle

I've been having some fun playing guitar using the app Chordify. It is a clever piece of software that analyzes YouTube music videos and produces a running display of the chord changes. I cannot read music and rely on song sheets with chord notations. The problem with these is that the chord changes are usually in the wrong location. I can usually "hear" where the change is supposed to occur but it is nice to get a visual cue, especially on instrumental tunes.

My selection for this week is "Blood on the Saddle". This song is special to me. My Godfather introduced me to the music of Tex Ritter when I was a teen. This song immediately stuck in my head. I made a point of singing it with him at family jams. Fun Fact: John Prine makes mention of it in his song "Grandpa was a Carpenter". I share that memory with him.

There was blood on the saddle and blood all around
And a great big puddle of blood on the ground

A cowboy lay in it all covered with gore
And he never will ride any broncos no more

Oh, pity the cowboy, all bloody and red
For the bronco fell on him and bashed in his head

There was blood on the saddle and blood all around
And a great big puddle of blood on the ground
